The Liguria region in Italy is set to launch a new training course for environmental guides, focusing on the region’s geological sites, or geosites. This initiative, which is a collaboration between the Region and the University of Genoa, aims to promote the local geological heritage and encourage sustainable tourism. The course, which will take place in March and April 2025, will include both theoretical lessons and practical activities, with the goal of equipping the guides with the necessary skills to promote respectful and curated tourist experiences.

The geological heritage of Liguria is a distinctive element of the region, and vice president of the Region, Alessandro Piana, believes the course is not just a way to protect this precious legacy, but also to develop sustainable tourism opportunities.

The course will be approximately 10 hours long, divided between theoretical lessons and practical activities, including excursions in some of the region’s main natural parks. The guides will have the opportunity to apply their learned knowledge, interacting directly with the geological heritage.

The initiative is part of a broader framework to enhance the natural resources of the Liguria region, with the aim of strengthening the link between tourism and environmental protection. The trained guides will be ready to design innovative hiking routes and to present the Ligurian landscape in an engaging and scientific way. This initiative contributes to positioning Liguria as a destination for green excursions and environmental education, aligning economic interests with principles of sustainability.
